Personal Reflection and Key Takeaway on Ethics Topics

 

Ethics is one of the fundamental standards that everyone should practice. Ethics can be applied in everything and every aspect in our live. Because most of the times we need ethics to help our decisions whether we head to right or wrong direction. Before, many business purposes were all about “quantity” and “profitability” which made them forgot to focus about their employees.

Fortunately, business nowadays realizes that human resources is the key to success in business. If you have excellent people work for you, those men will solve the problems before it gets bigger, or even prevent the problems at all cost. 

A lot of organizations want to keep remaining good reputation and being sustainability. Surely those things take time to establish but it will both retain current people and attract more new talents to work in that company. Those qualities refer to the organization that has “Ethics”, which is a magnet to pull good people to work in the company. If the company wants to change in a better way, company must re-announce the core value to current staff and be up front during recruiting process to make sure HR recruit the right people and new people have the same core value as well.

          Ethics could simply mean “ rules , principles or social value belief in that community that people in the community follow”. They are important   subjects for business to adopt in its code of conduct which can help organization decide the right and wrong path to head to. From researches, ethics has benefits in many ways such as below

       The reason I choose this topic to do my blogs, it’s because from my personal experience that I partly disagree about how the last generation run the business by focusing on profitability and barely on people. And the blog that I would like to give my personal reflection is blog 1 and 2. The reason is that, blog 1 and 2 are quite related and practical in real life. As I mentioned on the first paragraph about everyone should practice ethics and as a top manager myself, I would like to be an ethical role model to my employees. But I need to understand what business ethics is and how to apply in my workforce.

          After conducting the research, I have realized that ethics encourage in many ways for running business as above such as; 

 

1.    Ethics Helps Business Operation:  Ethical company is built by honest good owners or top management team. When the Top Management team holds on to the value, no doubt that Top Managers and HR will search for ethical employees who will embrace the same morals as them. When company core value and principles are applied by ethical employees, company will run smoothly without problems that cause surprising operations damages of the business. This results more productivity, fairness, efficiency and transparency in the company.

 

An Example of My Real Reflection: As an executive manager, I make our policies clear that I will not tolerate unfair and unkind behaviors. I treat everyone with equity. We have Thais and foreign staff, if Thai leaders could pass a difficult task such as annual audit by customers, company will take them out for dinner. Yet to be fair even workers have less involvement for the audit, company still offer them lunch from local kiosks.

 

 

2.   Ethics helps a Relation with Employees:  If compares business department to our body parts, employees can be muscles. Because muscles have the strength to move body to do all the works to keep body’s function which means the company production can run regularly. If company knows how to maintain a good relation with employees not only try to achieve business goals but also nurtures and gives fair compensation, rewards and support when works are accomplished or yet educates or warns employees when things need to be improved.  

 

An Example of My Real Reflection:  Since my company only has Saturdays off and sometimes it is hard for my staff to have good work life balance. I always offer them to take days off and still paying. For people who has been in the company from 1 year and more, will get extra 2 days off but under condition that they have to be able to manage their works before taking days off. People who have been in the company for more than 5 years will get free transportation tickets to visit their hometown once a year.

 

 

3.    Ethics Helps Increasing Customer Satisfaction: Every business needs customers to have profitable outcome. Yet company has to think of how to keep current and attract more customers in the future. Ethical company will not only operate smoothly but it will be reliable to customers in keeping promises and business deals. Moreover, company will take complaints to improve the products and the services to reach customer’s satisfaction.

 

An Example of My Real Reflection: Due to our machine is broken and can’t produce and deliver later, we will not make any excuses and will tell our customers the truth. And because of our part that will not be able to deliver, we will open especial delivery to support the missing products to prevent the shortage.  because they have the right to know so they can come up with backup plan as well. If we do the false advertisement this will damage our credibility and reputation to next time we negotiate.

 

 

4.   Ethics Helps Increasing Profitability: When employees hold on to the ethical value, company will eliminate corruption out of company. In addition,  when the employees have company’s best interest whenever business deals are made, it will be less wasting products, materials or money. This eventually leads to an increase in business profit in the long run.

 

An Example of My Real Reflection: My purchaser will try to find the best deal in our procurement process and will have receipts every time there’s a purchase taken place, this proves their honesty and helps saving company budgets.

 

 

5.  Ethics Helps Increasing Business Image and Reputation: Company is willing to offer a reasonable price or budget friendly to customers and provide impressive services. Social works is also good activity to give back society

 

An Example of My Real Reflection: Not only my company provides reasonable production price deal, our employees also do their best to finish production on time with quality products

 

         Certainly, there will be more subjects that are related to ethics practice that I have not mentioned. However, for those subjects that I have picked and explained, are the subjects that I experience almost every day and can relate the most.  Although, each business and each individual have different aspect when it comes to personal value which can be a bit difficult to have the same point of views. However, employees can still have the bottom lines and common concepts from leaders who are the role models and can set the clear standards and value within that community. If the leaders can establish and educate their employees to follow what company has given, both company and employees will be able to peacefully work together with less conflicts and problems.
